Jibu capitalizes and equips emerging market entrepreneurs to create affordable access to drinking water and other necessities.
Perhaps the most fundamental challenge facing emerging markets today is the lack of meaningful economic opportunity. Without adequate training, mentors, and capital, aspiring entrepreneurs lack the resources to start promising businesses, leading to a pervasive economic and jobs crisis. At the same time, about a billion people have no access to necessities such as affordable drinking water. Although some progress has been made to address these systemic challenges, the current state is nowhere near commensurate with the abundance of well-meaning and generous resources invested for decades.
Business-driven approach
Our innovative business-driven, charitably-grounded model transforms the lack of access to basic human needs into an expansive opportunity by allowing thousands of properly equipped social entrepreneurs to become the solution, one neighborhood at a time.
We work differently, and it is working
Jibu is quickly scaling a network of locally-owned franchise business owners, starting in urban areas of Uganda, Rwanda and Kenya. Many of these franchises are young women. Their anchor product is affordable, convenient, high-quality drinking water. Their market is the vast millions of families living in communities unable to afford many of life’s most basic necessities.
Identification of entrepreneurs
Budding entrepreneurs have big dreams. In emerging markets like developed ones, entrepreneurs envision businesses that grow organically, generate profit, benefit their communities, and leave a legacy for the next generation. They want to control their own destinies and avoid undue dependency on others. They are incredibly passionate and will take big risks to realize their dreams.
Jibu identifies, qualifies, incubates, and capitalizes budding entrepreneurs from this rich resource pool to launch franchise businesses. Jibu franchisees make money while solving their communities’ issues, generating hundreds of new local jobs and igniting a virtuous cycle of wealth generation for themselves and their communities. They have the passion, drive and ability to get the job done. The payoff over time: hundreds of powerful new businesses and thousands of high-quality jobs - built on the foundation of providing an affordable, lasting water source for many of the world’s under-served families.
Custom banking services for aspiring entrepreneurs
One of Jibu’s key innovations is the integration of franchisor and custom banking services for aspiring entrepreneurs. Jibu’s model offers entrepreneurs access to both the upfront asset financing needed to launch a business and the ongoing infrastructure support to keep profits aligned with impact. Our social franchise business model provides a proven structure to ensure that emerging market entrepreneurs channel their efforts wisely within the constraints of a revocable franchise license – one that requires adherence to Jibu’s brand standards and charitable.
